Plant Based Proteins: Some of The Benefits

Most people are aware that protein is an essential component of our diet.  Protein is essential for almost all of the structures and cellular and metabolic processes in our body.

Proteins are made of building blocks called amino acids, these building blocks are needed by the body for a multitude of different processes including, tissue growth and repair, immune function, and for countless enzymatic reactions in the body. There are 10 essential amino acids we need, meaning that the body can't make these amino acids itself, so we have to get them through our dietary protein intake. We all know that high-protein foods are generally from animal sources, including meat such as chicken, beef, fish and eggs. If you are vegetarian or vegan, sometimes getting enough protein can be a bit of a challenge!  We all have minimum levels of daily protein requirements so we get enough amino acids for our daily body functions, so achieving this from plant sources can sometimes be difficult. This is where musclemary products come in!

Musclemary products all are based on delivering optimal levels of plant proteins to ensure you are getting enough of the good stuff! Our products contain two of the best sources of plant protein: pea and white hemp.

White Hemp Protein

Most vegans and vegetarians know that hemp is a good source of protein and nutrition for a number of reasons, so include this in their diet. White hemp is considered a complete protein source as it contains all of the 10 essential amino acids your body needs. It is considered one of the best sources of plant protein by those with a vegan diet. In addition to the amino acids, hemp protein also contains albumin and elastin, which are proteins that are in your body. The other great thing about white hemp protein is that since most of the proteins are similar to those of the body, it is easily digested, meaning it gives less in the way of GI (gastrointestinal) side effects, such as bloating or wind, compared to whey proteins. Another benefit of hemp protein is that it is high in fiber and essential fatty acids (EFAs). It is also a great source of important vitamins and minerals that are essential for bodily processes. Some of the other benefits of white hemp protein is that it can boost the immune system, reduce blood pressure, lower cholesterol and support weight loss. In musclemary products,  the added CLA, glucomannin and matcha green tea also help with this!

White hemp is also one of the least allergenic protein sources so also reduces any adverse effects when taken as a powder, compared to whey protein.

Pea Protein

Pea protein is another great source of plant protein for everyone, not just those on a vegan diet! It has numerous benefits due to its great amino acid profile, including many branched chain amino acids (BCAAs). Pea protein is known to aid weight loss due to its effect on the hormone ghrelin in the stomach, which delays gastric emptying. Like hemp protein, pea protein also has been shown to reduce blood pressure and support a healthy heart by reducing cholesterol levels. It has also been shown to decrease blood sugar levels so could potentially be used to improve glycemic control. A few studies have also linked it to reducing kidney disease and increasing muscle thickness! Pea protein also contains good levels of the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. So all round pea protein is a real winner when it comes to vegan proteins!
